Onjali Q. Rauf, Author of 'The Golden Stamp' Visits Holton Primary School

This term Year 5 have based their inquiry focus around the book ‘The letter with the Golden Stamp’ which is based on the life of a young carer. On Thursday 17th October, Year 5 were very fortunate to have a visit from the author of the book, Onjali Q. Rauf. During her visit she discussed with us her inspirations for writing the book and learnt all about her life and upbringing, we also had the opportunity to ask the questions that we have prepared during our inquiry lessons.

What a wonderful few weeks in our Hub, with both our learners and families enjoying our courses. Palmerston Learning community are supporting our parents with ESOL courses, this being our third time hosting. Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) have also been working closely with both our parents and learners for the Bright Sparks sessions everyone in attendance being very enthusiastic and eager to learn and take part in their weekly sessions. If you are interested in joining future courses or have any suggestions for future courses, please speak with Mrs Hopkins.

Year 3 to Year 6 were treated to an amazing performance from Sinfonia today in the Junior hall. Check out the photos and videos, they had us up singing and dancing!

Macmillan Coffee Morning

What a wonderful morning in the Cynefin Caffi raising money for Macmillan. Holton staff, parents and volunteers worked together and enjoyed a fabulous coffee morning, chatting whilst eating the delicious cakes donated. Thanks to all involved, we managed to raise over £250 for this worthy cause!

This week we celebrated officially becoming a school of sanctuary, the first primary school in the Vale of Glamorgan.

In order to become a school of sanctuary, we at Holton had to demonstrate an understanding of what it means to be someone seeking sanctuary, and a commitment to creating a welcoming and caring environment for those people in need of help.

The panel commented, “It is evident that Holton Primary School is the centre of the community they serve. Overall, there exists a clear and purposeful strategic vision which sits with all of the School of Sanctuary values.”

To celebrate our  achievement, we hosted an award presentation which the Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Cllr Lis Burnett, and MP for the Vale, Kanishka Narayan, attended.
